Another way to learn French

What if learning French became something you genuinely looked forward to? A moment of curiosity, encounters, laughter, and discovery. A moment where the language is no longer a barrier, but a gateway to France.

Live French is a bespoke language immersion designed for those who want to speak French to experience, understand and connect (without pressure, exams, or rigid rules).

Live French differently

Live French was born from a simple conviction: you don’t learn a language just to master it perfectly, you learn it to live it.

For us, mastering French is not the ultimate goal but a way to meet people, understand them, and share experiences. We deliberately move away from academic methods and rigid classrooms. French is spoken to exchange ideas over coffee, to understand a passionate artisan, to share a meal, but above all, to dare.
Live French offers a human, authentic approach. It’s an invitation to explore the language through culture, encounters, and everyday life, with that little “je ne sais quoi” that makes each experience unique.

At the end of each day, there is a moment to reflect on the experience. In a friendly atmosphere, you revisit words, expressions, and situations you have lived. Vocabulary anchors naturally, carried by emotions, sounds, and shared moments.

In Beaune and across France

Live French was born in Beaune, in the heart of Burgundy, a region perfect for encounters, culture, and the art of French living. This is where the experience was first shaped before expanding to other parts of France.

Today, immersions can be organized anywhere in France, tailored to your interests, the places you want to explore, and the experience you wish to live. Each immersion is adapted to the context while maintaining the same spirit: experiencing French in real life, in contact with people and culture.

An experience-driven approach

Live French is led by Virginie Rouxel Segaut, a teacher with a passion for languages and human relations.

She realised at a very early age that languages are about much more than just academic learning. At the age of 17, a trip to the United States made one thing abundantly clear: a language is a key to exploring the world, understanding others and opening oneself up to new cultures.

This conviction now guides her teaching approach. An approach based on listening, kindness and real-life experience, where learning happens through doing, without pressure, with confidence and enjoyment. It is this spirit that drives Live French in every immersion programme.

Spending the day in Paris with Virginie was truly one of the highlights of my trip. She created a fun and interesting itinerary where I could learn about the French culture and practice French together.

We were especially lucky to be in Paris on a Journée du Patrimoine, allowing us to enter the Mazarine Library, not usually open to the public. Together, we visited the beautiful Library, taking in its history and atmosphere. We then went to Les Deux Magots to enjoy a café and practice speaking French in such an iconic setting. She has a wonderful way of gently guiding you, helping you build confidence without ever feeling self-conscious. It felt less like a lesson and more like sharing a day with a friend.

We ended our time together with a relaxed apéro, continuing our conversations in French. It was the perfect way to tie everything together—language, culture, and connection.

It was a wonderful experience to improve my French while truly experiencing Paris. It was immersive, personal, and unforgettable.

I have been fortunate to travel in France several times, but never like this.

Using the French that I’ve studied is always the goal and its harder to do than you’d think.

If you’d like to get beyond short exchanges in cabs, with receptionists and ordering from rushed waiters, try this.

I had such varied conversations with the locals. Sure we spoke about their careers, but also shared some funny childhood memories, lightly delved into innocent gossip, and of course considered the food and drink we shared.

It was so full that I can’t cover it here, but I’ve never touched a part of France like this in just a week’s stay. They were strangers that I just met, but we already had a connection. I just jumped in with my guide beside me, and although I may have broken records for mistakes, it was surprisingly easy to be understood.

Mostly it was great fun.
